Kegel Excercises - By Bethany Hizer

While many women have heard of Kegel Excercises I'm willing to bet that many don't have any idea as to their benefits. In addition, although many have heard of Kegel, I would also bet that many women aren't familiar with the excercises themselves.

Wait, you might be saying, I'm familiar with Kegel but I don't know what muscles I should be exercising. It's really not too difficult; In fact, finding the muscles used in Kegel’s is as easy as going to the bathroom. When urinating, start and stop your flow of urine several times. You’ve found your PC muscles! When doing Kegel’s, try to only use these muscles.

Performing the Kegel Exercises can be done in a number of ways. The following four methods are some of the best I've found.

Contract and Hold:

Squeeze the muscles and hold for a count of ten. Contract and hold for another count of ten and continue to do so until tired.

Flutter:

Contract the muscles as quickly as possible. Just make rapid light contractions. Take a rest – then do it again.

The Elevator:

Imagine there’s an elevator in your pelvic region and that you want to raise and lower. Start at the ground floor and go up to the first floor, then up the second floor, and last to the third floor. Then gradually allow the “elevator” to go back down stopping at each floor. Once you get to the ground floor, completely relax the muscles you’ve just exercised. This one takes a little time to master but is very effective!

The Workout:

For even better and quicker results there are "tools" that will make Kegel exercises easier to do and feel more natural. Using weighted balls such as Ben Wa, Pleasure Pods or Sports Balls, insert only one ball or side at first. Squeeze and release for two minutes. When you start to notice greater muscle strength, add the second ball or side.

Note: You can find many of these tools at my website
